Dit is het langverwachte tweede samenwerkingsalbum van The Cousins Project , oftewel Kristina Stykos & Steve Mayone , dat 13 jaar na hun debuutalbum Beautiful Blood verschijnt en op 19 juni 2026 uitkomt via Thunder Ridge Records .

De singer-songwriters Kristina Stykos en Steve Mayone , beter bekend als The Cousins Project, die roots- en Americana-muziek maken , bevinden zich diep in de bossen, zoals hun nieuwste album zal aantonen - en het is daar niet altijd even fraai.
Als veteranen in de akoestische muziekscene brengen ze hun gezamenlijke songwritingtalent samen op deze plaat, met een combinatie van felheid en tederheid die op een vreemde manier meeslepend is. Veel van hun gezamenlijk geschreven materiaal gaat over een gevaarlijke, natuurlijke wereld: een wereld bevolkt door vrachtwagenchauffeurs die in de sneeuw proberen thuis te komen, en door kinderen die troost en verhalen zoeken onder eeuwenoude dennenbomen.
Het album heeft een rauwe, rockachtige sound, maar ook een grote, zachte kant. Met zijn vaste muzikale partner Jeff Berlin [Catlin Canty, Jeffrey Foucault, Reed Foehl] op drums en gastartiesten zoals Seamus Egan [Solas] op lage fluit, bestrijkt de muziek een breed scala aan dramatische landschappen, die zowel de landelijke pracht van Stykos' thuisstaat Vermont als de scherpe humor en wijsheid van Mayone's geboorteplaats Brooklyn, New York, weerspiegelen.

Het achtergrondverhaal
In 2006 speelde Steve een optreden in Vermont met een band genaamd The Perfect Trainwreck, en Kristina kwam opdagen. De twee hadden elkaar nog nooit ontmoet. Toen Steve vanaf het podium werd voorgesteld, spitste Kristina haar oren – vreemd genoeg was zijn achternaam [Mayone] haar tweede naam!
Zoals ze al snel ontdekten, waren ze achterneven en -nichten van tegenovergestelde kanten van een familie die uit elkaar was gevallen. Toen het baksteenbedrijf van hun overgrootvader, Mayone Brick Company in Saugerties, New York, eind jaren veertig failliet ging, raakte de familie verspreid en vervreemd - Steves tak verhuisde naar het zuiden, buiten New York City, terwijl Kristina's tak naar het westen verhuisde, naar Ithaca, New York.
De neven en nichten beseften al snel hun familiaire en muzikale band. Ze begonnen samen te werken in Kristina's studio hoog in de bergen van Vermont. Het resultaat was Beautiful Blood , uitgebracht in 2013, dat door Maverick Country UK werd geprezen als "een album van ingetogen schoonheid en prachtige momenten".
Hun volgende albumproject, Child of the Hills , begon vrijwel direct. Steve reisde zo vaak mogelijk van Brooklyn naar Vermont en werkte samen met drummer Jeff Berlin, en opnieuw met Kristina achter de mengtafel, aan dit album met dertien nummers . Rekening houdend met de vele obstakels onderweg en een pandemie, duurde het twaalf jaar om het te voltooien.

Kristina Stykos
As a musician, composer and poet, Kristina has been supported by the Ucross Foundation of Wyoming, and by the Vermont Community Foundation. Her solo album River of Light (2019) featuring guitarist Val McCallum [Jackson Browne] was awarded #2 “Best Vermont Albums of 2019” by County Tracks.
She holds producer and engineering credits for more than 30 albums, with a focus on singer-songwriters & Americana artists, including a debut album from Ariel Zevon, daughter of acclaimed rocker, Warren Zevon. She owns and runs Pepperbox Studio in Lincoln, Vermont, and releases artists on her own independent record label, Thunder Ridge Records.
Steve Mayone
Songwriter Steve Mayone wears many hats. Based in Brooklyn, he performs as a solo artist and with his bands Bastards of Fine Arts and The Cousins Project. He’s released five albums and has toured the United States, Canada, and Europe, garnering praise from both sides of the pond. He also composes music for film and TV.
As an in demand accompanist, he’s performed and toured with Sister Kate Taylor, Annie Keating and Todd Thibaud and has shared the studio with Levon Helm, Larry Campbell and Bow Thayer. His playing and singing can be heard on such albums as Marjan Farsad’s Blue Flowers (2014), Paisley Fields’ Glitter & Sawdust and Glitter (2018) and Boris McCutcheon’s I’m Here Let Me In (2018).
