Erik Stucky - Bag Of Bones - track-by-track song notes

  1. Bag of Bones(Erik Stucky) came to me in the car on a drive through one of the most rural and desolate parts of Colorado. Though I rarely have an agenda when I write, as the song unfolded it took on the story of someone who at any time could “fall off the wagon” and be swept away. The lyrics, “as yesterday gets older, if you ain’t moving forward, look out!” ,and “time ain’t lying” sum up the message of the song. I realized that this is a warning to all of us to stay vigilant with our time and the paths we take.
  1. Night Train(Erik Stucky, Robert Rea) narrates the journey of a woman who finally escapes from the town that seemed to hold her captive. For the first time in her adult life, she feels free. “Free to be yourself is something you can’t ever get enough of” is a landmark lyric of the song.
  1. Jealous of the Wind (Erik Stucky, Tiffany Gassette) expresses the longing we feel to be free of the pains that come with being a human. The monotony of everyday life, the pain of love. The Wind, on the other hand just, “blows and keeps on the blowing” and is “free to leave without even grieving”. When you think about it, how can you not be Jealous Of The Wind?
  1. Because You’re Right(Erik Stucky, Robert Rea, Chelsea Chaput) illustrates the complexity of life and love. It’s rarely black and white and like most things, actually comes down to just being different. We all have to find our own way. And sometimes, that means saying goodbye for no other reason than two paths drifting apart. One wants to stay, and the other has to go.
  1. Crying Side of You (Erik Stucky) encapsulates the total inversion of a world when good love goes bad, and how it can change in an instant. When you are the one on the receiving end, it’ll leave you feeling upside down and inside out. And part of you knows that you should have seen it coming, but it’s too late - “Trust a lie never tells the truth, I’m dying on the crying side of you”.
