Soms komt er een artiest voorbij die niet netjes binnen de lijntjes van een genre kleurt, maar er bewust overheen tekent. BARTOK – het alter ego van Marco Bartoccioni – is zo’n naam. Met zijn nieuwe, album BARTOK (release: vrijdag 5 juni 2026) presenteert hij een intrigerende herdefiniëring van rootsmuziek: geworteld in blues, maar onmiskenbaar geworteld in het nu.

Bartoccioni beweegt zich al meer dan twintig jaar door het muzikale landschap, maar kiest hier nadrukkelijk voor een andere koers. Zijn vertrekpunt ligt in de blue traditie, al behandelt hij die niet als een vaststaand gegeven, maar als grondstof. A pivotal moment in the making of this project was deeply personal. During his father’s illness, Bartoccioni wrote a piece that functioned as both a form of communication and emotional grounding. That composition became the axis around which the album slowly took shape. Rather than remaining a single, isolated song, it set the tone for a broader body of work in which memory, resilience, and emotional honesty are central themes. You can hear that intimacy throughout the record: it is restrained where it needs to be, but never distant.
 
The self-titled album **BARTOK** consists of eight tracks and marks a clear recalibration of his artistic direction. Sonically, it balances primitive blues impulses, alternative rock textures, and minimalist electronic elements. Guitars are left intentionally raw, while analog synths and subtle processing add depth rather than gloss. Recorded and produced in Italy, with additional mixing in the US and mastering in Nashville, BARTOK ultimately reflects an artist who is deeply rooted, internationally seasoned, and unafraid to redraw the boundaries of what contemporary blues-based music can be.
