Belgian alternative blues rock band Boogie Beasts announce the release of “Shake ’Em On Down”, the lead single from their upcoming album Don’t Be So Mean! – A Tribute to R.L. Burnside, out April 17.
A hypnotic and groove-driven reinterpretation of the R.L. Burnside classic, the track stays true to the raw spirit of North Mississippi Hill Country blues while injecting the band’s signature grit and energy.
The single features special guest G. Love, who adds his unmistakable Philadelphonic
Boogie Beasts explain:
“We were teenagers in the ’90s, growing up with grunge. One outsider from that era was G. Love & Special Sauce. What they did — mixing blues and hip hop — felt completely new and had a big influence on us.
When we were making a wishlist of special guests, G. Love quickly came to mind. His album Philadelphia Mississippi, where he mixed hip hop with North Mississippi Hill Country blues, made the connection obvious. When he played at the Gevarenwinkel Festival in Belgium last summer, we simply asked him. To our great joy, he said yes right away.
‘Shake ’Em On Down’ is a true Burnside classic, but together with G. Love, we gave it our own personal twist. We’re incredibly proud of this collaboration.”
“Shake ’Em On Down” is the first taste of Don’t Be So Mean!, an album celebrating 15 years of Boogie Beasts and 100 years since the birth of R.L. Burnside.
