De twaalf nummers op het album zijn geschreven door Keller en Byron Isaacs. Aan enkele nummers hebben anderen een bijdrage geleverd. Multi-instrumentalist Adam Minkoff heeft de productie in handen gehad en is op onder meer drums, toetsen, gitaar, bas en percussie te horen. Tevens leveren een aantal muziekvrienden hun bijdrage aan het album. Wie bekend is met het werk van Keller weet dat hij een songwriter is die kleine verhaaltjes in een muzikale omlijsting weet te verpakken. Ook op dit album zijn de teksten minstens zo belangrijk als de muziek. Dat blijkt meteen uit het eerste swingende nummer met een duidelijke boodschap: “Love One Another”. Muzikaal is het iets wat ‘roots’ wordt genoemd, een samenspel tussen rock, country en blues met uitstapjes naar soul en reggae. Stuk voor stuk zijn het fijne nummers, prima geschreven en uitgevoerd. Missers zitten er sowieso niet tussen. Bijzondere vermelding verdienen naar mijn mening de wat droevige “Getting Over You”, het mooie “I Want To Go Back Home” en de lekkere blues “Black Dog”. 

Op de muzikale begeleiding is niets aan te merken. Dat staat als een huis. Jims stem is uitermate geschikt voor dit genre. Mooi, vol en met dat rauwe randje dat zijn nummers een puur en eerlijk voorkomen geven. Kortom, een zeer fraai album en een absolute aanrader. Voor mij persoonlijk een van de beste albums van dit jaar.

He took his first musical steps in San Francisco with Tommy Heath as part of the band Tommy Tutone. Jim Keller has now been living and working in New York for quite some time. First as director of Philip Glass's company, he later worked on various theater productions. He has been releasing his own music since 2005. Due to other projects, we had to wait three years for it, and now Jim's sixth solo album has finally arrived, dramatically titled "End of the World."

The twelve songs on the album were written by Keller and Byron Isaacs. Others contributed to some of the tracks. Multi-instrumentalist Adam Minkoff handled the production and can be heard on drums, keyboards, guitar, bass, and percussion, among other things. Several of his musical friends also contributed to the album. Anyone familiar with Keller's work knows he is a songwriter who knows how to wrap short stories in a musical setting. On this album, too, the lyrics are just as important as the music. This is immediately apparent from the first swinging track with a clear message: "Love One Another." Musically, it's something called 'roots,' a blend of rock, country, and blues with forays into soul and reggae. Each and every one of them is a fine song, well-written and performed. There are certainly no missteps. Special mention, in my opinion, goes to the somewhat sad "Getting Over You," the beautiful "I Want To Go Back Home," and the delightful blues "Black Dog."

The musical accompaniment is impeccable. It's rock solid. Jim's voice is perfectly suited to this genre. Beautiful, full, and with that raw edge that gives his songs a pure and honest feel. In short, a very fine album and highly recommended. For me, personally, one of the best albums of this year.
