Records Talking about the film Björk said: “I am so thrilled to share the film for my concert Cornucopia with you. This has been a long journey with hundreds of people helping. I am so beyond enormously grateful to every single one of them. I feel the modern concert film is a matriarchally friendly construct, welcomed in the current climate—where female musicians can share their worlds uncorrupted.”
Directed by Ísold Uggadóttir, Cornucopia is Björk’s most ambitious live production to date — a powerful fusion of nature, technology, and sound. The film features creative direction, musical arrangements, production, and performance by Björk, showcasing her singular vision throughout.
Visual co-creative direction is led by James Merry, with additional contributions from a stellar lineup of artists: Andrew Thomas Huang, Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, Pierre-Alain Giraud, Nick Knight, Tobias Gremmler, and Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton-Jones. Their boundary-pushing visuals merge seamlessly with Björk’s avant-garde sonic landscapes.
The production also features the talents of producers Sara Nassim and Kat Mansoor, with Bergur Þórisson serving as musical director and re-recording mixer. Artur Tort provides the film’s stunning cinematography, while editing comes from Walter Mauriot
The film is produced by S101 and Snowstorm, in association with Level Forward (also acting as Impact Producer). Executive producers include Derek Birkett; Adrienne Becker and Roger Clark for Level Forward; and Davíð Helgason for Foobar.vc. Ik ben zo blij dat ik de film van mijn concerthoorn des overvloeds met jullie kan delen.
Dit was een lange reis, waaraan honderden mensen hebben meegeholpen. Ik ben hen allemaal ontzettend dankbaar.
Ik vind dat de moderne concertfilm een matriarchaal vriendelijk concept is, dat in het huidige klimaat welkom is, waar vrouwelijke muzikanten hun wereld ongestoord kunnen delen. In Cornucopia werd ik vergezeld door muzikaal leider en multi-instrumentalist Bergur þórisson , percussionist Manu Delago , fluitseptet Viibra , harpiste Katie Buckley en het Hamrahlid- koor.
De afgelopen tien jaar heb ik gewerkt met 360-graden geluids- en beeldsoftware in virtual reality en animatie. Ik heb Biophilia gemaakt en later Vulnicura als VR-album. Ik was enorm geïnspireerd door het idee van een volledig meeslepende ervaring waarbij Utopia en Fossora via surround speakers werden verspreid. Mijn bedoeling was om wat we hadden gecreëerd voor 21e-eeuwse VR over te brengen naar een 19e-eeuws theater, van de headset naar het podium.
Deze visie werd gerealiseerd met 27 bewegende gordijnen die projecties op verschillende texturen en LED-schermen vastlegden, waardoor een digitaal geanimeerde show ontstond: een "moderne lanterna magica " voor livemuziek. Ik wilde ook op maat gemaakte instrumenten gebruiken: een magnetische harp, een alufoon , een ronde fluit en een galmkamer, speciaal gebouwd met een audio-architect om de meest intieme versie van een optreden te versterken - in een persoonlijke kapel.
Door het hele verhaal heen is een subplot verweven: een tweede verhaal over een avatar - een moderne marionet die op alchemistische wijze muteert, van pop tot pop, van een verwonding aan het hart tot een volledig genezen toestand. Björk
