This is the debut album from Burning Rope, released on 11th October 2025

Following the death from cancer last year of 29 year-old Catfish frontman Matt Long, his father and Catfish keyboard player Paul Long eventually made the decision to return to making music. He formed this new band with Catfish bassist Adam Pyke, drummer Mitch Weaving who regularly played with Catfish during their final year, and an extremely talented guitarist, Alex Voysey, whose album Paul had produced. Five of the tracks feature Chloe Josephine (formerly of Brave Rival) on backing vocals.

They played their first show at The Tuesday Night Music Club in April, which sold out, and have appeared at Colne, Upton and OId Bush Blues festivals over the summer, as well as setting out on tour across the UK. In between these live dates, they have recorded their first album, with initial live tracks recorded at The Joplin House in Kent and engineered by the excellent Dan Lucas, and further sessions at Paul’s Vincent House Studio.

Most of the songs are written by Paul, with two of them (Life In Reverse and Before The Landslide) reflecting on his own health scares and the loss of Matthew. The four band members are now starting to write new material together, including Something’s Got To Change Part 2 which is the same story as Part 1, but told from the other person’s perspective. The final songs, Before The Landslide and Something’s Got To Change Part 2 form a continuous 13-minute piece, with the instrumental After The Landslide in between. Both Adam and Alex also take lead vocals on one track each. They are looking forward to continuing to develop this co-writing and sharing of vocal duties going forward
