The dynamic, globetrotting blues duo Long Tall Deb & Colin John are set to ignite the summer with the release of their highly anticipated new album, “LIGHT IT UP,” dropping July 11, 2025 via the VizzTone Label Group.
In LIGHT IT UP, powerhouse blues-rock vocalist Long Tall Deb and British-American guitar alchemist Colin Jonh deliver riveting blues-rock originals plus two brilliant covers: Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful”, and “Sweet Dreams,” the Eurythmics’ pop hit reimagined as a Texas Blues shuffle. Chris Butler, the mastermind behind the popular 1980’s band The Waitresses, co-produced and co-wrote many songs on the recording with Deb and Colin, and played both drums and bass on various cuts. Guest musicians include Canadian harmonica star Steve Marriner, drummer Jason Edwards, backup vocalist Jennifer Milligan, and guitarists Alastair Greene and Pascal Fouquet
For the first single, Deb and Colin breathed new life into the Eurythmics’ iconic ’80s hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” —transforming the synth-pop anthem into a gritty, soulful Texas shuffle. Their bold reinterpretation trades drum machines and synths for swaggering guitar work, sultry vocals, and a swinging rhythm section steeped in blues tradition. For the first single, Deb and Colin breathed new life into the Eurythmics’ iconic ’80s hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” —transforming the synth-pop anthem into a gritty, soulful Texas shuffle. It came together really quickly in the studio, and we’re all excited to have reworked a popular song into a style we all love.” Deb’s evocative vocals shine against Colin’s smoking guitar tone, while drummer Jason Edwards and bassist Chris Butler drive a tight, swinging groove. Adding another layer of soul, Jennifer Milligan delivers tasteful, haunting backing vocals
BACKGROUND
Long Tall Deb, known for her soul-drenched vocals cultivated in church choirs and shaped by her Texas/Mexico border heritage, first turned heads with her 2013 breakout VizzTone debut Raise Your Hands, which received heavy rotation on SiriusXM’s Bluesville and marked her as a rising star in contemporary blues. Together with Colin John, the duo continued their momentum with two critically acclaimed VizzTone releases: Streets of Mumbai (2015) and Dragonfly (2018), blending global textures with deep American roots.
Transpacific Bluesman Colin John, a seasoned British-American guitarist who received his early touring miles with Teeny Hodges, Little Mike and The Tornadoes, Henry Grey, Pinetop Perkins, Michael Hill, Hubert Sumlin, Phil Guy, Big Jack Johnson, and Gary Brooker of Procol Harum, brings a deep command of American roots and international music traditions to the collaboration. Together, Deb and Colin create a sound that is both timeless and innovative—an echo of the Delta wrapped in the rhythm of the world, influences gleaned from their travels throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and the Pacific. Film and TV soundtrack credits include TNT's "Good Behavior" and indie film "Contrast".
