Een van de instrumenten, waarmee de heren aan de gang gaan, is de door Tom Terry zelf ontwikkelde gitaarbas, een hybride instrument dat zowel de eigenschappen van zowel een bas als die van een gitaar in zich verenigt.
Vorig jaar bracht de band het eerst album uit, simpelweg “Soul Stir” getiteld. Op het album staan twaalf nummers, waarvan een cover (U2’s “Bullet The Blue Sky”) en een nummer, “Dogs Of War”, dat in twee versies te horen is, namelijk een radio mix en een filthy mix. Meteen bij de opening tonen de beide heren waar ze voor staan: harde, stevige rock, duidelijk geënt op blues. De opener, het instrumentale “Anthem” knalt keihard de huiskamer binnen met een stevig stampend marstempo, alsof een heel leger binnen komt marcheren. Het tweede nummer “My Final Breath” gaat net zo stevig. Goede zang, dat op het stevige fundament van drums en gitaarbas kan opbouwen. Opvallend op het album is de dominante aanwezigheid van het basgeluid. Stevig, zwaar en toch melodieus. Andere nummers die een speciale vermelding verdienen zijn “Ever Wanted” met een opvallend naar de ouderwetse Westcoast-sound leunende zang, en de bluesrock “She Comes In The Night”. Sinds verschijnen van het album is deze in de VS door journalisten en collega’s met veel lof ontvangen. Tom Hamilton, de bassist van Aerosmith zegt: “Your album is incredible!” Toch iemand die het kan weten, denk ik.
Het is inderdaad een prima album, het toont een stevig en vol geluid, haast Big Band te noemen, geproduceerd slechts twee personen. Aanrader.

Soul Stir is an American rock duo, consisting of Tommy Anomaly (vocals, guitar bass) and Wes Parker (drums, vocals). Tommy Anomaly is the alias of Tom Terry, who is part of the band Tas Cru, with whom he recently toured Europe. Both Terry and Parker have managed to build an impressive music career. A few years ago, they decided to form a band together. It has remained a duo, but one that is able to produce the sound of a whole band.

Since the album was released, it has been received with much praise by journalists and colleagues in the US. It is indeed a great album, it shows a solid and full sound, almost like a Big Band, produced by only two people. Recommended.
