THE MEXICAN STANDOFF DEBUTS FIRST ALBUM, HOLA TEXAS! CELEBRATING MEXICAN AMERICAN CULTURE (March 11, 2025)
Bridging The Latin And Country Music Scenes With Their Vibrant Mexamericana Sound
Mexican American all-female band The Mexican Standoff proudly announces the release of their debut album, Hola Texas!, an homage to Texan music legends and the rich heritage of Mexican American musical culture. Featuring collaborations with Grammy-winning icons Flaco Jimenez and Los Texmaniacs, the album captures the spirit of Texan border music infused with a punk attitude and a fresh female perspective.
Hola Texas! was recorded in San Antonio, Texas, under the expert production of Fernanda Ulíbarri, Max Bacca, and Joe Treviño, with mastering by Kurt Wipfli. Joe Treviño, a celebrated figure in Texan music, recorded and mixed the album, bringing authenticity and polish to its six tracks.
Track Highlights; “El Pantalón Blue Jean”- A playful reinterpretation of a 1950s classic by Flaco Jimenez’s father, now featuring female vocals to challenge its original narrative. “Perlita”- A timeless Texan folk song passed down generations, reimagined with heartfelt vocals. “Amor Bonito”- A tribute to Lydia Mendoza, a trailblazing Texan musician whose legacy inspired the band. “Tu Dirás”- A traditional Mexican song from Lydia Mendoza’s repertoire, offering a soulful nod to Texan-Mexican musical roots. “En el Cielo No Hay Cerveza”- A lively German tune popularized by Flaco Jimenez, bringing audiences to their feet at live shows. “Sola”- A poignant Agustín Lara ballad featuring raw vocals and stripped-down instrumentation, closing the album with emotional depth.
The Mexican Standoff is known for their electrifying live performances, blending Mexamericana, country ranchero, and mariachi influences with a punk twist. They’ve headlined premier venues like The Grand Ole Echo (Echoplex), opened for acts including Los Amigos Invisibles and Los Super Seven, and performed at major events like Viva Los Dodgers and L7’s Fast and Furious Festival. An all-female band with roots in Los Angeles and Mexico, The Mexican Standoff bridges the Latin and country music scenes with their vibrant Mexamericana sound. With a commitment to celebrating and preserving Mexican American culture, they continue to captivate audiences and break barriers in the music industry.
Their unique sound and identity have resonated deeply, earning them glowing reviews from NPR Latino, KCRW, and more. Their music videos have garnered viral success, and the single “El Pantalón Blue Jean” achieved their first Spotify cover feature.
The making of Hola Texas! was a labor of love that spanned years. The project began when frontwoman Fernanda Ulíbarri discovered Flaco Jimenez and became inspired to record with him. After connecting with Max Bacca of Los Texmaniacs, the band launched an Indiegogo campaign to bring their vision to life. What started as a single recording blossomed into a full album, uniting generations of Mexican American talent.
“This album is a celebration of Texan music, its musicians, and the vibrant beginnings of Mexican American musical culture,” says Fernanda. “It’s also about amplifying female voices in a genre where they’ve been historically underrepresented.”
Hola Texas! is set to release on March 11, 2025. The band is planning an extensive tour to share their music with audiences nationwide. Fans can expect a fun, heartfelt, and culturally rich experience at every show.
