A Musical Journey Across Cultures
Born in Chile, Nico’s musical odyssey began at 13 when he stumbled upon John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom. Inspired by the blues, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in music and electric guitar at ARCIS University in Santiago, forming the band Shabakano and touring southern Chile.
Nico’s passion for blues led him to Chicago, where he immersed himself in its vibrant music scene. He earned a master’s degree in applied pedagogy in classical guitar at Northeastern Illinois University, honing his technique and expanding his compositional palette. In 2019, he released his debut solo album, Homenaje, an instrumental fusion of rock and intricate arrangements.
Relocating to Arizona, Nico embraced songwriting, composing music in English and Spanish. His single Horizon captures the spirit of perseverance, likening the sun’s unreachable horizon to life’s compelling journey. Recognized for his talent, Nico was honored by the Blues Phoenix Society in 2022-23 and became a finalist at the Tucson Folk Festival in 2022.
An International Performer
Nico is also the co-founder of the Qiru Duet, a clarinet-guitar duo celebrating Latin American music. With performances spanning Colombia, Mexico, Ireland, and the U.S., the duo reflects his deep connection to his cultural roots.
