The Blues Foundation on Friday announced the nominees for the 46th Annual Blues Music Awards. This year, two Blind Pig artists received first-time nominations in the category of Best Emerging Artist Album......
Jovin Webb has been nominated for his raw and emotive debut, Drifter. The 12-song collection is a vibrant mix of growling low-down blues, Jovin’s wailing harmonica, heartfelt soul ballads, and rowdy, Little Richards-style rock 'n' roll. Downbeat says, "The triumph of Jovin Webb's first release hinges on the impressive strength of his singing... an utterly convincing deep-blues voice that seems to be stained by nicotine and marinated in rye whiskey," while B.E.T. proclaims, "Jovin Webb is bringing blues to a new generation." Sonny Gullage has been nominated for his modern blues odyssey, Go Be Free. The New Orleans-based singer/songwriter and keyboardist's dynamic fusion of traditional blues, gospel, and contemporary soundscapes has been lauded by critics and fans alike. Living Blues says, "Gullage might be earmarked as 'the next big thing'... he certainly has the talent to fit that bill," and adds that Sonny, "sings with the supple facility and gritty soul of a seasoned veteran." The standout single "Worried About the Young" features an incendiary guest appearance by Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. For more, visit www.SonnyGullage.com.
Both albums were recorded in Nashville and produced by multi-Grammy winner Tom Hambridge.
The Awards Show will be held in Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday May 8 at The Renasant Convention Center. For a full list of awards, nominees, and more information please visit www.blues.org.
