About FREE
Antwerp based Alt-Country, Indie Folk band STEVE LEON & THE ACCUSATIONS present "FREE" (VIDEO), the second single off their upcoming album "Borrowed Time Bonanza".
Imagine growing up on the Clash, the Smiths and the Cure. Then hitting 30 and falling in love with Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams and Gram Parsons. That kind of sums up the trajectory of the band, whose members grew up playing in punk bands. The resulting sound of this evolution, as exemplified by "Free" has a good chance of appealing to fans of Wilco, Bright Eyes, Green on Red, Chuck Prophet or The Mountain Goats. Indie songwriting in a country/folk tinged disguise.
Lyrically, "Free" deals with a world where the concept of personal freedom is being used as a justification for expressions of racism, sexism and general hatred. A complete denial of climate change and all necessary measures to help limit it is often also hidden behind the term "Freedom". The song expresses the frustrations caused by this and raises the question whether these statements need to be respected as expressions of personal freedom when they serve to limit other people's freedom.
The new album "Borrowed time bonanza" was recorded straight to 16 track analog tape, capturing the band while playing together live. This results in a truly honest sounding record, capturing those little magic moments that can only happen in such a setting and presenting with a warm and detailed sound. In this way, the band makes conscious decision to preserve human emotion an imperfection in a time of glossed over productions and AI generated music. Mastering was handled by Bob Macc at Subvertcentral.
"Free" will be released on October 11th, accompanied by a music video and is the follow up single to "Bound to break" (released September 13th). The album will see the light of day on November 8th. Both will be released on the German imprint Off Label Records, on vinyl and all streaming platforms.

Tour dates
STEVE LEON & THE ACCUSATIONS will be playing shows to promote the album throughout Belgium and Holland in fall 2024 and spring 2025. A European tour will also follow early 2025.
