Sam Lewis’ long-awaited new solo album, Superposition, his first since 2020, irresistibly fuses Americana undertones to hazy dream-like melodies with psychedelic instrumental flourishes.
Comprising eight atmospherically captivating originals alongside a compellingly unique take on Dire Straits’ ‘Walk of Life’, Superposition is due for release on Loversity Records on November 1 2024.
Two singles from the album will be released in the meantime - ‘Bad Man’ on September 6 and ‘Smile’ on October 4 - and Sam will be touring in the UK and the Netherlands to coincide with the album release – see full tour itinerary below.
Sam Lewis on Superposition…
My upcoming album was recorded at The Cabin Studio in Nashville, TN, owned and operated by Matty Alger, one of today's most accomplished drummers and engineers.
I had the privilege of helping Matty build this beautiful studio starting in 2019, completing it in 2020 amid the tumult of the pandemic. It became a sanctuary for us during those chaotic times, where we began crafting music and immediately enlisted the immensely talented Ethan Ballinger as producer for the songs that would form my upcoming album, SUPERPOSITION.
When the pandemic abruptly halted my 2020 world tour and cast uncertainty over the future, Chase McGillis offered me a position as a carpenter at his construction company. Working alongside Chase, who also happens to be a stellar bassist, I gained further insights into construction while he lent his musical talents to help refine our new songs.
This core ensemble remained steadfast over the next twelve months, with occasional appearances from special guests. Mikie Martel added his graceful flugelhorn and trumpet performances to two tracks, while JT Cure (featured on my two previous albums Waiting On You (2015) and Loversity (2018)) delivered a soulful, heart melting bass line on a standout song titled ‘Sappy Ending’.
Recording these songs brought me immense joy, especially given our unconventional approach. Rather than sticking to rigid schedules typical of studio sessions, which often span weeks or even months, we gathered whenever possible - a spontaneous evening, a leisurely afternoon, or an impromptu Sunday at the studio following another challenging week in the outside world. We'd reconnect, share stories, and then hit record, capturing moments that resonate deeply in the music we created together

“Lewis proves he’s a talent to be reckoned with.” No Depression
“…his songs are outstanding, more than justifying past comparisons to Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and John Prine.” RNR magazine
