Arab Strap: new single "Haven't You Heard"
Arab Strapâs unieke signatuur wordt al sinds 1995 gekenmerkt door hun Schotse tongval, poĂŤtische teksten en humor. De indie rock / alternative pop band levert met âIâm Totally Fine With It - Donât Give A Fuck Anymoreâ, âtheir most sonically expansive albumâ, weer een waar meesterwerkje af. Het duo Malcolm Middleton en Aidan Moffat, met hun jarenlange productionele metgezel Paul Savage (The Delgados), staat wederom garant voor 12 nieuwe pareltjes âwith a mix of intoxicating melodies and a threatening intensityâ. Arab Strapâs gelijk vertrouwd aanvoelende en Schotse half gesproken, half gezongen songs bevatten dit keer wat extra pit, beats en urgentie (met veel maatschapplijke themaâs) en âfurthers the bandâs transformation from swooning, lo-fi, slow-core, post-rock romantics to raging, alt-pop chroniclersâ.
âHearts wonât mend, and wounds arenât healing.
The world wonât care about how youâre feeling.
Didnât you hear me?
Havenât you heard?
Didnât you know I love you?â
Following their critically-acclaimed 2021-album âAs Days Get Darkâ (which was their first album since 2005) the Scottish indie rock / alternative pop band Arab Strap return with their second long player for Mogwaiâs Rock Action Records. The new album âIâm Totally Fine It - Donât Give A Fuck Anymoreâ examines many more urgent, timely themes, such as conspiracy theories, online addiction and the forgotten souls of our seemingly connected planet, all wrapped up in the most adventurous earworms of the bandâs career. The result is a record loaded with what the Arab Strap-duo Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton calls âa quiet angerâ; their âmost sonically expansiveâ album with equal parts rage and love for âthe tangible world and intangible world, and which one you choose to believe and engage withâ.
Almost 28 years after their debut, Arab Strap have never sounded more essential, and this new record is a fierce testament to their laser focus on wider horizons. Written and performed exclusively by Middleton and Moffat, and finessed with longtime collaborator Paul Savage, the album furthers the bandâs transformation from swooning, slow-core romantics to raging, alt-pop chroniclers. "I'm Totally Fine With It - Don't Give A Fuck Anymore" may sound like the title of an album by a band giving up (itâs just a text from the bandâs live drummer that Moffat thought was funny), but in reality itâs an album that stands to clearly define a new creative period for Arab Strap. With the band having recently ended a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their second 1998-album âPhilophobiaâ, this new album feels charged by a desire to move forward and explore new terrain. âThe tourâs been fun, but Iâll be glad itâs over so we can move on,â laughs Middleton, while Moffat echoes him. âThese gigs have been a way of saying goodbye to the old us,â he says. âIt was a very gentle, quiet tour, so I expect this year we'll just be playing banger after banger - I think we've earned the right to make some noise nowâ.
