Haar muzikale wieg staat bij het kinderkerkAllykoor en leidde al snel naar helden als Stevie Ray Vaughan. Inmiddels heeft zij een solide fanschare opgebouwd, waar ook artiesten als Mike Zito en Kenny Wayne Shepherd bij horen.
Onlangs is bij het Duitse label Ruf Records Ally’s vijfde album “Real Gone” verschenen. Hierop vinden we twaalf nummers, geschreven door Ally, producer Tom Hambridge en Richard Fleming. De Ally Venable Band bestaat naast haarzelf uit Isaac Pulido en EJ Bedford. Daarnaast springen op twee nummers nog Joe Bonamassa en Buddy Guy bij. Het valt meteen op dat de nummers wat gevarieerder zijn dan op haar vorige albums en ook haar gitaarspel heeft meer kleur gekregen. Nummers die wat mij betreft een speciale vermelding verdienen zijn “Going Home”, dat rustig begint en na een vlammende gitaarsolo weer rustig eindigt, “Texas Louisiana”, waarin Ally en Buddy Guy afwisselend zingend en soleren op gitaar, en het melodieuze “Gone So Long”.
Zoals ik eerder schreef is het geheel gevarieerder dan haar eerdere cd’s. Daar zit een absolute groei in, maar het mag wat mij betreft nog wat kleurrijker. Het zou zeker niet verkeerd zijn om bij haar zang tussendoor wat meer ingetogen te zijn. Dat komt de variëteit alleen maar ten goede. Ze is in ieder geval de goede weg ingeslagen. Het is verder een prima cd.

She has now built up a solid fan base, which also includes artists such as Mike Zito and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Recently Ally's fifth album “Real Gone” has been released by the German label Ruf Records. On this we find twelve songs, written by Ally, producer Tom Hambridge and Richard Fleming. As I wrote earlier, the whole is more varied than her previous CDs. There is absolute growth in that, but as far as I'm concerned it could be a bit more colorful. It would certainly not be wrong to be a little more subdued in her singing in between. That only benefits the variety. At least she's on the right track. It is also a fine CD.
