THE NIGHTHAWKS -SLANT SIX

THE NIGHTHAWKS - SLANT SIX - coming February 10, 2023 on VizzTone label Groep

one! This digital EP features six new tracks, all rock-solid blues recordings that deliver the heart and soul of the bad boys from Baltimore, the "world's best bar band!"

It's the 50th year for the legendary blues and roots band The Nighthawks, who are finally back on tour. They recorded a fine 50th Anniversary album - ESTABLISHED 1972 - in the dark days of isolation. Once things got rolling again, new songs brought them back into the studio — not originals but great compositions from classic blues sources like Muddy Waters, Little Milton and Johnny “Guitar” Watson, plus a very cool tune by old friend Al Anderson.

The first single from their new Digital EP, SLANT SIX, is out now. “Don’t Know Where She Went” is Willie Egan’s red-hot New Orleans rocker with a double vocal that could have been written for this band. Blending Don Hovey’s rich baritone with Mark Stutso’s soulful wail, they rock it hard. Both Wenner on harp and Dan on guitar get a chance to rip out blazing solos. No, they don’t know where she went, just that “She Split!”

Formed in 1972, the Nighthawks underwent several personnel changes before stabilizing as the lineup of Mark Wenner (vocals and harmonica), Jimmy Thackery (lead guitar), Jan Zukowski (bass guitar), and Pete Ragusa (drums). Their 1979 album, Full House, issued on Adelphi Records, includes guest appearances from Pinetop Perkins and Bob Margolin................
