Altered Images - Mascara Streakz
After a thirty eight year hiatus, the rejuvenated band have just completed putting the finishing touches to the first Altered Images music since the album “Bite” was released in 1983. It’s an upbeat and contemporary sounding album which sounds like a natural progression of the Altered Images journey and sound, all topped with the instantly recognisable vocals of Clare Grogan. The album is produced by former Altered Images band member and acclaimed producer Stephen Lironi and features 12 songs that Clare Grogan has co-written with Stephen, Bernard Butler and Bobby Bluebell.
The celebrated Scottish band fronted by singer Clare Grogan started life as a post-punk band, winning Best New Group at the NME Awards before becoming one of the most recognisable pop cover stars of the 1980s with six UK top 40 hits between the years of 1981-1983, including the massive Top 10 singles “Happy Birthday” (#2), “I Could Be Happy” (#7) and “Don’t Talk To Me About Love” (#7), all lifted from their three Top 20/Top 30 albums released in the same time frame (two selling Silver).
At the same time as finding fame with Altered Images, Clare also appeared in the 1981 BAFTA winning film Gregory's Girl, she has also had roles in dozens of TV and Radio Dramas, including some of the UK's best loved TV shows: SKINS - which she also wrote songs for which were used in the series, WATERLOO ROAD, EASTENDERS, DOCTORS, RED DWARF, FATHER TED, TAGGART, SEA OF SOULS, FORGIVEN. Her film credits include not just GREGORY’S GIRL but also, COMFORT AND JOY, JILTING JO, WEDDING BELLES, SMALLEST GAME IN TOWN, LOYAL, EMO, THE PENALITY KING, BAFTA winning drama THE WEE MAN, DELIRUM and most recently MY OLD SCHOOL with Clare voicing an animated character alongside Alan Cumming which had it’s European premier in March 2022 at the Glasgow Film Festival.
Clare has presented film, travel and music shows for TV and radio including the BBC's THE ONE SHOW, STV’s SCOTLAND’S REAL HEROES, ITV’s DREAM TICKET, VH 1 and VINTAGE TV. She has presented for 6MUSIC and BBC RADIO SCOTLAND as well as for ABSOLUTE 80’s. Her Radio 4 comedy and dramas include ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE alongside Josie Long, RUMBUNCH with Mel Giedroyc and the serialisation of MODESTY BLAISE. As an author her debut novel TALLULAH AND THE TEENSTARS reached No 2 in the Waterstone’s Children's Book Chart.
But music remains Clare’s biggest passion, she featured on a track on last years Top 3 album ‘Hi’ by Texas (with ‘Look What You've Done’) and has been touring as Altered Images with a largely female band for a number of years, she is about to complete a UK Headline Tour (delayed due to covid), following last December’s 2021 Arena tour with The Human League and will be appearing at a number of UK Festivals this Summer including Cornbury Festival, Rewind Scotland and many more with further headline dates to be announced.
