Kate Ellis - Spirals
"Kate Ellis’s new album, ‘Spirals’ is an absolute joy. An irrefutable, unquestionable joy. 9/10" – AMERICANA UK
Spirals' is a record that allowed Kate Ellis to take the whirlwind in her head and put it to song. Kate is an Americana/Folk singer-songwriter who was born in Louisiana, raised in New York and is now based in London. Her southern country-folk roots come from her dad who as a young man once played guitar with Hank Williams on the famous Louisiana Hayride, where Elvis and Johnny Cash started out.
'Spirals' is Kate Ellis's spellbinding sophomore album, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut 'Carve Me Out' in 2017. It came out of a process of soul searching that allowed Kate to quiet the thought storms in her head and find her balance in the world. The collection of songs on 'Spirals' came out of the process of getting lost in the maze of obstacles and pain we encounter in life – how we go around in circles inside our head, or try to get back things we can’t, or solve a pain there’s no solution to. And it’s about getting out of these spirals to a more peaceful place on the other side.
The record was produced by John Reynolds who has recorded and produced iconic artists such as Sinéad O’Connor, Indigo Girls, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, Belinda Carlisle, The Cranberries and Damian Dempsey. I hope that whatever people get from the music, they’ll be moved. I hope that they’ll find something that is beautiful and truthful. I don’t think that you can connect with any real emotion without truth.
