News: Cass Eager Turns Lockdown into a Love Story

Cass Eager Turns Lockdown into a Love Story

The music video for her new single “The Way I Feel About You” brings hundreds together from across the world in isolation
Byron Bay’s modern soul singer Cass Eager is one of the thousands of artists who haven’t been able to gig for the last two years. She wasn’t turned on by livestreaming from her bedroom, so she decided to engage with her fans in a different way by asking them to co-create the music video for this song with her. She reached out to fans and friends, sending them the track and asking them to capture in a video something that was bringing them joy in their days of isolation.

The request quickly became a call to arms and the response was overwhelming: within days her inbox was flooded with hundreds of clips…and the single’s music video features every one of them (including Cass, who was in one of her happy places – the hammock in her backyard).
"I honestly didn’t expect such a massive response. My heart smiled as I spent days laughing and crying with joy as the clips poured in; people at home alone, with their partners, their kids, their pets, even their stuffed toys – laughing, dancing and singing the song. It was glorious sitting in bed with my morning coffee being reminded that we can find joy even in the cracks, and that we can share that with each other no matter where we are. Their smiles light up this song even more,” Cass says.

Written and produced in Los Angeles a month before the pandemic hit with producer Billy Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Avril Lavigne, Laura Jansen), “The Way I Feel About You” was inspired by a night out watching love song duets at KCRW's 'Desert Nights' at The Standard in Hollywood, and finished just hours before the recording session. It marks the beginning of new sonic terrain for Cass; layering her soulful voice with smooth bass lines, gorgeous guitars and a mid-tempo electronic beat. In the next year, expect a string of new releases and very exciting news. In the meantime, this feel-good jam is a song for our times and could be the perfect soundtrack to a hopeful year ahead…
Cass posted on IG: “It’s a love song. To remind us in these days of isolation and craziness we’ll always love the people we love, now and forever, no matter how near or far. To remind us that we’re all in this crazy together (with so many of you wonderful crazies in this music video with me
“The Way I Feel About You” by Cass Eager is out now via Little Bliss Records.

ABOUT CASS EAGER
Cass is a modern soul singer with a sound that embodies old-school cool with bold sexy optimism. Her sound takes its cue from a vintage sonic swagger a-la Amy Winehouse, but she’d be just as much at home drinking martinis with Andra Day, Brittany Howard and Nancy Sinatra at her favourite lounge bar in LA.

Cass’s soul-leaning, sun-seeking songs remind you that if the champagne glass isn’t already full, then it’s at least half-full (and definitely never empty). Her signature chocolate-coated vocals are drenched in a feel-good vibe, and her megawatt smile and natural charisma draw you in with gravitational force.
It isn’t just Cass’ new single “The Way I Feel About You” and its crowd-sourced video that have captured the imagination of her fans and industry. Cass’s acclaimed last single “Ain’t No Stopping Me” hit over 1.7M streams on a recent US Hyundai commercial. Her music has also been featured on a US McDonalds ad, as well as multiple TV shows on Amazon Prime, Nine Network and E! channels.
Just before the pandemic hit, Cass left Sydney as one of Australia’s most-loved blues singers, headed to LA and carved out a whole new sound; a love of classic soul, Motown and R&B mixed with a blend of the new West Coast. If you’ve heard Eager’s earlier albums and loved them, don’t worry. At its core, her new sound still carries the blues, but his time around she is no doubt influenced by LA-based producer Billy Lefler. Her dreamy old-soul voice sways across a modern lo-fi sound, with poignant lyrics to bring out the self-love and lover in us all, steeped in the power of a woman.
Inspired by the people and sounds of LA, Cass became the mother of reinvention and headed to Byron Bay, a vibrant Australian coastal town famous for its collection of misfits and dreamers, to dig into her music. Now recording both at home and in LA, Cass writes songs to try to - in the words of the great Dolly Parton - “make them laugh, make them cry, scare the hell out of them”.
She’s won crowds over at festivals around Australia and several tours across North America with the likes of Bob Egan (Wilco) and Ash Grunwald, dropping her joy bomb wherever she lands. She’s performed for Prince Harry and done several tours of duty entertaining the international troops from Egypt to East Timor.
Cass finds joy in hammocks, road trips, coffee, whiskey, sunsets, the moon, the ocean, anything vintage, rebels, muses, young-at-hearts, palm trees, velvet, denim, soul, R&B, rock’n’roll and eternal adventure.
Soul legend Al Green told Cass - in his church one Sunday in Memphis - ‘good things are gonna happen to you girl’, and she won’t ever stop believing.
