“Wistful, effervescent music that brims with youthful exuberance” The Line Of Best Fit

US indie heavyweights Hippo Campus return with sparkling new cut ‘Bad Dream Baby’ and announce their ‘Good Dog, Bad Dream’ EP, out August 6th via NYC indie label Grand Jury (Samia, Twin Peaks, Jordana, Native Sun).

Marking the band’s first proper release since 2018 sophomore album ‘Bambi’, ‘Good Dog, Bad Dream’ sees the Minnesotan five-piece at their most honest and vulnerable to date, with five intensely cathartic tracks tinged with confessions and dark humour. It’s a celebration of brotherhood, and the “all for one, one for all” mentality that has permeated Hippo Campus’ work since the very beginning.

To celebrate the EP announcement, the group have released a lo-fi VHS style video for ‘Bad Dream Baby’, giving fans a taste of the band’s live show which has already earned mainstage slots at the likes of Reading & Leeds, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Governor’s Ball, not to mention a sold-out UK/EU run on their last tour pre-pandemic, prompting the BBC to proclaim them as “one of the best bands in the US”.

Detailing their EP lead single, singer Jake Luppen explained: “The lyrics are a stream of consciousness, darting between my complex relationship with my father, a Britney Spears documentary, and some older men at Grumpy's (my favorite bar in Minneapolis) who used to hit on me. The hook references my exit from the Mormon religion when I was 15 and the isolation felt during quarantine and the death of the dog my mom got me during my parents’ intense divorce.”

With widespread acclaim throughout the UK/US press landscape (DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Consequence of Sound), alongside multiple nods on the BBC Radio 1 (Annie Mac, Jack Saunders), KCRW, and KEXP airwaves, Hippo Campus’ impressive ascent shows no signs of slowing anytime soon, and with more announcements on the way, interest is sure to intensify.
