As a solo artist Julian James may be a relative newcomer on the scene, but he’s wasting no time getting his name, and his music out there. From Tasmanian Jazz clubs to Byron Bay farmer’s markets, Victorian festivals to Adelaide jam sessions - it’s likely that Julian has stopped in there recently for a song and a drink (or two). He’s been on a constant tour cycle that’s seen him living out of his van for the past 18 months, and people are starting to take notice.
Hot on the old-timey heels of his ‘Silver Spade’ album which debuted at number 4 on the Australian Blues Airplay Chart earlier this year, Julian takes his sound up a notch with new song ‘Looking for a Light’, a ramshackle ditty in the great honky-tonk tradition that features a backing band made up of a who’s who of fine young Melbourne talent. Iseula Hingano of Blues Eyes Cry, Nadia Rose of Rambal, Rockabilly pianist extraordinaire Ezra Lee all lend a hand, and the full-blown horn section doesn’t hurt either.
To celebrate the release of the new track, Julian James is having a Melbourne Launch party featuring the full band in all its glory:
