Release: Pascal Bokar - American Trails
July 25th
Pascal Bokar, the virtuoso guitarist/vocalist who heard the earliest expressions of the aesthetics of the blues in his native Mali/Senegal, West Africa, reconnects with the sonic landscape of musical American traditions in this special CD release, American Trails.Bokar, the recipient of the Jim Hall Jazz Master Award for Guitar of the Berklee College of Music and the Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award presented by Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody, re-introduces the West African balafon (ancestor of the xylophone) and the banjo in a powerful, polyrhythmic blues-based gumbo like we have not heard to date.
Bokar’s previous CD, Guitar Balafonics, won Downbeat Magazine Best of 2015 and a 4-star review.
