Three years after Lowland Brothers, the band consolidates its foundations in Over The Fence, its successor to be released this fall. "Since the release of the first album, we have played a lot, given many concerts, and written a lot too," explains Nico Duportal about a homemade album, recorded between Nantes and Dunkirk, before being finalized at Guru Records studio in the suburbs of Nantes. "This process has been liberating," emphasizes Nico Duportal.
"This time, we really wanted to embrace the roots and DIY aspect of our production, while paying homage to the sound we admire and our own influences."For Lowland Brothers, these influences include, among others, the aesthetic of the reverb-heavy produc- tions of Colemine Records and Dan Auerbach on his Easy Eye Sound label, not to mention Boom-bap hip-hop and Togolese afro-funk. Between electric tension and kinetic atmospheres, Over The Fence offers a brilliant synthesis energized by the presence of Loris Marzotto on mixing, who managed to place Over The Fence in a resolutely contemporary setting. might not have allowed oursel- ves to do a fewdo a few years ago," enthuses Max Genouel, refer- ring to the creative letting go that characterizes the entire album, which is traversed by themes of fatherhood, transmission, and the experiences (individual and collec- tive) lived by the band members over the past few years. "‘Can You Hear Me?’ was written a long time ago, but we were not satis- fied with it. We had recorded a first version in the studio, but it was only when the three of us got together that we found the solu- tion," adds Hugo Deviers about one of the key tracks of Over The Fence.
"We always wanted to write these songs, but perhaps we didn’t fully own them. It was diffi- cult to take the plunge, but with this album, we went even further." More precisely, to the other side of the fence
