Om Micke’s zestigste verjaardag te vieren heeft platenmaatschappij Hokahey Records twee albums tegelijk uitgebracht onder het mom ‘Both sides of the bluesman’. Met Blue Strip is het wat meer rockende album “Outtakes” uitgebracht en met Lefty en Miikka ‘Chef’ Kivimäki is hij akoestisch te horen op een dubbel-livealbum. Variatie genoeg dus.
De naam “Outtakes” verraadt het al een beetje. Het zijn negen tussen 2000 en 2024 door de band opgenomen nummers, die de plaat destijds nooit hebben gehaald. Denk niet automatisch dat het dan maar een rommeltje is. Het is een verzameling vrij aardige nummers en het feit dat ze niet eerder op de plaat zijn verschenen toont wel de kwaliteit van de band. Blue Strip, dat naast Bjorklof (zang, harmonica, gitaar) bestaat uit Lefty Leppänen (div. gitaren), Seppo Nuolikoski (bas), Teemu Vuorela (drums) en Timo Roiko-Jokela (percussie, vibrafoon) is een hecht gezelschap dat swingend rockende blues brengt. Het is een verzameling aardige nummers, waarvan “Vacation” en “Runnin’ Shoes” m.i. het beste zijn. De rest is een beetje ’13 in een dozijn’.
Het tweede album is “Live On Air”, een dubbelalbum van Micke & Lefty featuring Chef. Dit is de akoestische blueskant van Micke en zijn maat Lefty. Het eerste schijfje is op 16 mei 2020 live opgenomen in de Boomroom Studio in Kauhava (Finland) en in oktober van dat jaar uitgezonden op de Duitse radio. Het tweede schijfje is op 20 mei 2023 live opgenomen tijdens het BluesBaltica Bluesfest in Eutin (Duitsland). Het geheel is een fraaie combinatie van eigen werk, voornamelijk van de hand van Lefty, en covers van mensen als Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Rodgers en Big Bill Broonzy. Al met al twee registraties van mooie optredens.
