Soul-blues duo Long Tall Deb & Colin John have breathed new life into Eurythmics’ iconic ’80s hit "Sweet Dreams" (Are Made of This)—transforming the synth-pop anthem into a gritty, soulful Texas shuffle. Their bold reinterpretation trades drum machines and synths for swaggering guitar work, sultry vocals, and a swinging rhythm section steeped in blues tradition.
“We had an idea to take an ‘80s pop song—one that most listeners would be familiar with—and turn it into a gritty blues,” says Long Tall Deb. “On the short list, we thought of Sweet Dreams and presented it to our co-producer Chris Butler (of The Waitresses), who dug the idea and suggested we turn it into a Texas-style shuffle. It came together really quickly in the studio, and we’re all excited to have reworked a popular song into a style we all love.”
Deb’s evocative vocals shine against Colin John’s smoking guitar tone, while drummer Jason Edwards and bassist Chris Butler drive a tight, swinging groove. Adding another layer of soul, Jennifer Milligan delivers tasteful, haunting backing vocals.
This reimagined Sweet Dreams is a bold blend of nostalgia and innovation—offering a fresh take on a classic that’s sure to turn heads across genres.
