Gisteren zagen we de Nienke Dingemans band aan het werk op het festival Blue Moods & Green Leaves. Even kort wat we zagen:

Haar band bestaat uit een aantal creatieve kopstukken uit de blues- en rootsmuziek. 

Jan van Bijnen, Joost Verbraak en Joris Verbogt die garant staan voor een heerlijke Amerikaanse meltingpot saus.

Maar de 19-jarige Nienke Dingemans voert zelf de boventoon met haar uitstekende songs, haar werkelijk prachtige slidegitaarwerk en die allesbepalende stem.

Niet zo vreemd dat haar ster rijzende is.

Zeer de moeite waard dus voor iedere blues- of rootsclub en voor ieder festival.

Eind 2021 debuteerde de Zuid-Nederlandse Nienke Dingemans met de EP Devil On My Shoulder en die sloeg in als een kleine bom; ongelooflijk dat een jonge vrouw zo’n krachtige roots-plaat kon afleveren. Wat een stem, wat een gitariste! Nu, ruim twee jaar later, is er haar eerste volwaardige album: Ain’t No Hollywood Girl. Tien eigen nummers in een volstrekt eigen stijl die op organische wijze van blues, soul, country en ballads een prachtig geheel maken. ‘My soul is old,’ zingt ze in het openingsnummer Hollywood Girl en zo is het. Dit is diep doorleefde muziek, Americana zoals die ook gemaakt had kunnen zijn door een band uit het Zuiden van Amerika. Glansrollen zijn er voor producers en multi-instrumentalisten Joost Verbraak en Jan van Bijnen. Maar de echte ster is Nienke Dingemans zelf. In 2021 noemde iedereen haar een groot talent, met Ain’t No Hollywood Girl is ze die status dubbel en dwars ontstegen. Wat een plaat!

Yesterday we saw the Nienke Dingemans band at work at the Blue Moods & Green Leaves festival. A brief summary of what we saw:

Her band consists of a number of creative leaders from blues and roots music. 
Jan van Bijnen, Joost Verbraak and Joris Verbogt who guarantee a delicious American melting pot sauce.
But 19-year-old Nienke Dingemans dominates with her excellent songs, her truly beautiful slide guitar work and that raw, all-defining voice.
It is not surprising that her star is rising.
Very worthwhile for every blues or roots club and for every festival.

 

At the end of 2021, Nienke Dingemans from the south of the Netherlands debuted with the EP Devil On My Shoulder and it was a huge hit; It's unbelievable that a young woman could deliver such a powerful roots album. What a voice, what a guitarist! Now, more than two years later, her first full-fledged album has been released: Ain't No Hollywood Girl. Ten original songs in a completely unique style that organically combine blues, soul, country and ballads into a beautiful whole. “My soul is old,” she sings in the opening song Hollywood Girl and that's how it is. This is deeply felt music, Americana as it could have been made by a band from the American South. There are shining roles for producers and multi-instrumentalists Joost Verbraak and Jan van Bijnen. But the real star is Nienke Dingemans herself. In 2021 everyone called her a great talent, with Ain't No Hollywood Girl she has transcended that status. What a record!
